Senior Embedded Software Engineer (f/m/d)

Job Description

1120 Vienna, Austria & Mobile Office (Hybrid with regular office presence)

  IMPACT starts with us: nxtControl is a subsidiary of Schneider Electric specializing in software solutions for automation and control technology. We are seeking an experienced Embedded Engineer for the runtime team in the NextGen Industrial Automation organization. This team is an integral part of development for our offering, EcoStruxure Automation Expert (EAE). You will design and implement new features as well as maintain the existing codebase for a core component of the EAE: EcoRT. EcoRT is IEC 61499-compliant runtime software embedded in industrial PLCs and PACs that execute user programmed industrial control application.

The IEC 61499 graphical programming language uses function blocks (either provided or user-defined) to realize an event-driven control execution model, thereby supporting the building of distributed control systems.

Your IMPACT:

  • Collaborate with product owner, technical lead, developers, and stakeholders to understand product requirements and system functionality
  • Participate in architecting and designing solutions that meet requirements
  • Break down work and estimate efforts in line with agile development practices
  • Perform code development, debugging, testing, and code reviews, adhering to best practices for quality, performance, maintainability, and cybersecurity
  • Work with verification and validation teams to ensure comprehensive test coverage and timely resolution of defects

Your Profile: 

  • Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field, with 7+ years of software development experience
  • Strong eagerness to learn and adapt, typically found in a startup environment
  • Proficient in object-oriented programming (C/C++) for multitasking, real-time, and distributed systems on Linux, Zephyr/RTOS, and/or Windows
  • Familiarity with high-level languages (Python and/or C#), Git, Docker, and static analysis tools
  • Knowledge of the Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) and experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) is a plus

For this position, the salary range is above the collective agreement and starts at EUR70,000 gross annually, depending on education, qualifications, and work experience.
